Larry Roger Weiss passed away peacefully November 5, 2009, in Surprise, Arizona, with his wife of 41 years, Cheryl, by his side. He was 64. Larry was born February 26, 1945, in St. Paul, Minnesota, and moved to Renton at a very young age. Larry attended Highlands Elementary School, McKnight Middle School, and graduated from Renton High School in 1964. During high school, Larry worked at a local food chain, Market Basket Grocery. After graduation from high school, he entered the Marine Corp, where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marines in 1966, Larry returned to Renton, where he began a 28 year career with the Renton Fire Department. He was promoted through the ranks and retired in 1994 as a Battalion Chief.Dad loved working for the Renton Fire Department, and during his time at the City of Renton, he attended Green River Community College and Seattle Community College, where he earned an Associates Degree in Executive Fire Management. He also attended the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland, on three separate occasions for advanced training.After retiring from Renton Fire, he and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Ocean Shores where they lived for six years. Once in Ocean Shores, Larry became Chief Examiner for the City of Ocean Shores, where he conducted entrance and promotional testing for both the fire and police departments. He also conducted testing for the City of Snoqualmie, Washington, when their Fire Department went from volunteer to a full-time, paid department. In 1999, Larry and Cheryl moved to Surprise, Arizona to enjoy the sun and the heat! Dad loved spending time with his family. We love him and will miss him dearly. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl; two daughters, Robin Conner (Bothell); and Kimberly McLynne (Woodinville); his twin sons, Jeff (Montesano); and Jason (Fall City); and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Rick; Joe; and Bob; as well as his sister, Janet, and numerous nephews and nieces.In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorials be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association. Services will be held December 5, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Renton (1700 Edmonds Avenue NE; Renton, Washington 98056).
