James Edward Gray

Born to Carl and Doris Gray in Moscow, Idaho. He grew up on a Wheat and Dairy Farm in Pullman. Graduate of Pullman High School, Class of 1958. Attended WSU and then joined the WSU Police Dept. He became a Volunteer Fireman in

Pullman which led to his career of full time Fire Fighter in 1967 and later City Fire Marshal of Pullman. Married Lynda J. Hufford in June of 1968. Moved to Renton in 1980 to accept a position of Fire Inspector and later Assistant Fire Marshal. He retired in 2007 with a total of 45 years in the Fire Service. A nine year member of the Washington State Army National Guard. He raced Go-Carts and a Datsun 1600 Sports car regionally for several years in the 60’s and 70’s. He was a member of numerous state Fire Marshal Committees and the International Association of Arson Investigators. A 45 year member of Moscow, Idaho Elks Lodge 249. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lynda, son Timothy (DeAnna), grandchildren, Carl and Amanda of Federal Way; sister Barbara (Doug) Scoville of Potlatch, ID; brother-in-law Steven Hufford, Vancouver; three nephews and several great nieces. He loved traveling-especially to the Hawaiian Islands. Enjoyed Fishing, and Hunting, Auto and Hydroplane races. As per his request there will be no service. He wished to be cremated and have his ashes spread off the coast of Maui, his favorite place. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Fire Department Alumni Association, PO Box 2961, Renton, WA 98056.
