Gladys Louise Anarde “Glady”, 93, of Renton, died October 9, 2011 in Seattle, Washington. She was born in Baca County, Colorado, to John W. Shelden and Julia Ann (Davis) Shelden the 4th of 7 children. She was raised in Missouri until the family moved north to Idaho to find work during the Great Depression. Shortly thereafter Gladys bounced around, exploring the Northwest, often on the back of a motorcycle. After answering a Boeing advertisement at the beginning of WWII she ended up in Seattle, working at plant 2 as a “Rosie the Riveter”, working hard on the home-front building planes while her future husband was at war. After the war Gladys married Louis Anarde Jr. in the fall of 1947. They had two boys, Richard and Gene who they raised in their home on Earlington Hill in Renton, WA. Gladys enjoyed gardening, appreciating nature, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband Louie Anarde, three sisters, Velma, Bernice, and Nelly, and her two brothers Jim and Edgar. She is survived by her youngest brother John Shelden, her two sons Richard and Gene Anarde, her grandchildren Jesse Anarde, Crystal Smith, and three great-grandchildren, Raven Smith, Gavin Smith, and Caius Anarde. Gladys will be laid to rest at the Greenwood Memorial Park on Friday October 14, 2011. Viewing and visitation from 9am to 11am. Funeral Service 11am.
