Gary Joseph Bernhard, age 71 of Newcastle passed on April 14, 2018. Gary was born January 4, 1947 and attended Seattle University, graduating from the University of Washington.

In college he met his wife of 49 years and settled his family in Newcastle. Gary taught at McKnight Middle School for nearly 44 years (retired in 2013). During that time, he coached many sports and led enrichment programs such as Yearbook, Natural Helpers, Photography, Hiking etc.

Outside of work he was active with his family and enjoyed many outdoor hobbies including: photography, fishing, cross-country skiing, camping and hiking. Time spent with his family and beloved dogs was precious to Gary and the memories and photos he took will last forever.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife Geraldine Ann Patricia Tomalin, two daughters Heather (Mike) Dagg and Heidi (Craig)Erickson, and three grandchildren Nathan, Logan, and Evelyn.
