Dianna L. Miskimens, 51, of Renton, Washington, died peacefully at home with her loving family where she lost her battle with cancer Saturday evening April 13, 2013. She was born Dianna Louise Royal in Olympia, Washington to Philip D. and Clara M. (Fanning) Royal, July 5, 1961 at the old St. Peter’s Hospital. She was a graduate of Renton High School, class of 1979 where she enjoyed being in Drama and Choir. She enjoyed her favorite rock band ‘The Eagles’ from that time and a few weeks before her death she saw the group for the first time perform live in Las Vegas five rows back from the stage with her husband Dean (facilitated by her nephew Drew); she sang along to her favorite tune ‘Lyin’ Eyes’. The 1980’s found her in Mount Vernon where her son and best friend Steven Woody was born in 1982, a son who was always the light of her life. Dianna made a great group of friends in the area who she still maintained relationships with. She attended the 2012 Pioneer Picnic in La Conner where her Boyd & Savage family ancestry in Skagit County was honored as “Pioneer Family of the Year”. When she returned to Renton in the late 80’s she, her brother Dan and sister Bonnie, were all single parents. They worked together as a strong family unit and for a time they raised the four kids between the three of them: Steven, Maleena, David and Jon grew up more as siblings than cousins, which they still consider themselves today. Dianna lost her mother, Claire, to a fatal heart attack April 7, 1990, her mom was 50 years old at the time; it was a devastating loss for the family. Her relationship was strong with her son Steven, who gave her away in marriage to a wonderful man, Dean S. Miskimens, a former classmate from RHS, September 1995. They formed a new family unit, Dean’s parents and extended family became an extra set of loving family for her. As a family they enjoyed BBQ parties with family and friends, sporting events and Golf, lots of Golf, taught to her by her very capable husband. Many golf outings included faithfully attending every year the “David Fanning Memorial Golf Tournament” to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. David Fanning was a first cousin who died from CF in 2002. Her final joy and source of strength as she was going through her early stages of cancer was the marriage of her son Steven to Reasa Shuck and the birth of her granddaughter, bright eyed and intelligent, McKenzie May Woody on June 26, 2012. Dianna was preceded in death by her mother, Claire Royal, Seattle, maternal grandparents Hugh and Edna Fanning, Olympia. Her mother in-law in 2010, Dolly Miskimens, Auburn.She is survived by her loving husband, Dean Miskimens of the family home; son, Steven (Reasa) Woody and granddaughter McKenzie Woody, Bothell; sister, Bonnie (Mike) Lowe, Stanwood; brother, Dan (Maureen) Royal, Concrete; father, Phil (Donna) Royal, Bellingham; father in-law, Bud Miskimens, Auburn; grandfather Howard (Jackie) Royal, Everett; brother in-law, Kelly Miskimens. Aunt and Uncles: Rockie (Rita) Fanning, Olympia, Michael Fanning, Tacoma; Beverly (Don) Coulter, Burlington. Niece and nephews: Maleena Marshall, Stanwood; David (Linda) Royal, Brorup, DK; Jonathan (Katelyn) Royal, Mill Creek; Adam (Kelli) Jackson, Olympia; Drew Jackson, Santa Monica, CA; Kristen Wallace, Chicago, IL. Many special friends, cousins, great-nieces and nephews. As Dianna wouldn’t want to be remembered in any sad affair, a ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held Sunday, April 21, 2013, 2:00 PM at the Maplewood Golf Course, 4050 Maple Valley Hwy, Renton, WA to remember her as the brilliant shining star that brought so much treasure to all our lives. Bring your golf club if you have one to drive a golf ball off a tee in her memory. Dress casual. A special thank-you to her Sister-Cousins who acted as Caring Angels since this cancer took a turn for the worse; Kathy and Stacy Casebolt and daughter in-law, Reasa Woody. Suggested donations in her name can be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. Cremation arrangements were made by Greenwood Memorial Park, Renton, WA.
