With two days left, SIFF has surpassed last year’s Renton ticket sales

With two days still left in its Renton run, the Seattle International Film Festival has already surpassed last year's ticket sales.

With two days still left in its Renton run, the Seattle International Film Festival has already surpassed last year’s ticket sales.

Through Monday night, 1,695 tickets had been sold to watch the 19 films at the IKEA Performing Arts Center at Renton High School. Last year’s total ticket sales were 1,607.

The opening-night screening Thursday of “Touchy Feely” drew about 500 people to the IPAC, followed by the gala at the Renton Pavilion Event Center, or more than last year.

Films that did particularly well were Friday night’s “The East,” with 282 tickets sold, and Monday night’s “C.O.G.,” with 235 tickets sold.

Ticket sales are also going well for the final film of the run, “Cold War,” which screens at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

SIFF-Renton started about a week later than last year, giving SIFF and the Renton community more time to promote the films being shown, said Preeti Shridhar, Renton’s deputy public affairs administrator.

“As you build it (SIFF-Renton) over time, it establishes itself,” said Shridhar. This is the third year for the festival in Renton.

She’s heard that filmgoers are coming to Renton for the festival in part because parking is convenient and they like the IPAC theater. Thanks also go to the SIFF volunteers, she said.

Tickets for the final films, “Full Circle” and “Aayna Ka Bayna” on Tuesday and “Another Woman’s Face” and “Cold War” on Wednesday are available online at siff.net or at the IPAC box office, which opens for the evening about 30 minutes before the start of the first show.
