Renton Spring CERT Classes at Renton Regional Fire: Renton’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will hold free emergency preparedness classes every Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. from April 20 to June 1. The class’ final drill will be on Saturday, June 3 at the Renton Regional Fire Authority Station 14 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register through April 14 at rentonwa.gov/register and keyword search “CERT”.

Thumbs by Rupert Holmes at Renton Civic Theatre:

A mystery-comedy play will have showings at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $21-$26 and are available through rentoncivictheatre.org. The Renton Civic Theatre is located at 507 South 3rd Street.

The Hair and Fashion Show at Renton Pavilion Event Center:

Presented by I Am Curvy Perfect, this event highlights fashion for curvy and plus size women, complete with an afterparty. Doors open at 6 p.m, show begins at 7 p.m. and the after-party is at 9 p.m. Tickets are $35, for more information, visit whyrenton.com/experience/the-hair-and-fashion-show/.

Spring Show 2023: Scale Model Contest & Exhibition at Renton Community Center:

Presented by IPMS Seattle, this exhibition event is all about scale models. Doors open at 9 a.m., contest entry closes at noon and awards will be at 3:30 p.m. Raffles, vendor tables and awards for every junior entry. Adult entry into the contest is $20, junior entry tickets are $5 and spectator tickets are $5. Categories, model registration forms are available at ipms-seattle.org/springshow/.

Celebrate Día: Multicultural Literacy for Children’s Day/Book Day at Renton Library:

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., this event is part of a King County Library series that promotes multicultural books, languages and reading with families. There will be Spanish/English, English/Vietnamese, English/Somali and English/Hindi story times, along with a crafy hour and an English/Spanish music show. Suitable for ages 3 to 12 and no registration required.

Family Campfire Night at Shadow Lake Nature Preserve:

From 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., families are invited for hot cocoa and s’mores around the campfire. Feel free to bring campfire songs and (family-friendly) ghost stories. While this is a free event, $5 donations to the refreshment fund is welcome and registration is required at shadowhabitat.org/event/campfire-night-april-29/. Come early at 5 p.m. for a pre-campfire tour of the Shadow bog and, since this is a weather dependent event, contact Shadow Habitat to confirm the event is not rained out. The campfire is located at 21656 184th Avenue Southeast in Renton.

Pacific Northwest Step Forward to Cure TSC 5K Walk at Renton Community Center:

This free 5K walk to raise awareness for families and individuals affected by Tuberous Sclerosis begins at 9 a.m., with check-in between 8-8:30 a.m. The 5K will also include balloon twisting, games and prizes for kids and lunch will be provided.

8th Annual Mother’s Day Brunch & Paint at Delancey’s on 3rd:

A fun afternoon in honor of mom, this event by Kay’s Paint Joint runs from 1 – 4 p.m., complete with brunch, mimosa bar, painting and music. Advanced tickets at $35 required for entry. Smocks, paint, brushes and 12×16 canvases provided. For more information, visit kayspaintjoint.com/book-online.

Ensemble Ballet Theatre presents: “To Neverland” at Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center:

This original ballet production based on J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan” will be showing on Friday at 9 p.m. and two showings on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, plus booking fees and available at ebtballet.org.

Saturday, May 13 & Sunday, May 14

Renton City Retro at Renton Pavilion Center:

This video game convention is back and at full capacity, complete with all access after parties, free arcade and video game play, vendors, toys, comic books, anime, an artist alley, cosplay contest, e-sports tournament and even a burleqsue show! The convention will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days and tickets are available at rentoncityretro.com.
