Two men driving through the parking lot at the Seahawks headquarters on 12 Seahawks Way in a pickup Dec. 5 caught the attention of a security guard.
The red extended-cab Chevrolet truck drove in a long circle around the parking lot at about 6 a.m., according to a Renton Police Department case report.
A passenger got out and walked around a large industrial diesel generator by the front entrance. He walked toward the playing fields on the south side of the complex, then returned to the generator.
They told the security officer the truck was making a rattling noise, so they decided to check on it.
They took the extended drive and the one man took the short walk to the field because they were intrigued to be at the Hawks’ headquarters and wanted to see it.
But the security guard thought they were casing the generator and its copper wires, which are expensive and theft-prone. They had also driven by another generator on the grounds.
The security guard told them to leave. He wrote down the truck’s license plate as well as a description of the men.
The truck was pulled over later in the day. The driver was cited for a suspended driver’s license in Oregon. His description matched the truck’s driver.
There wasn’t probable cause to arrest anyone. However, the men’s actions reminded the officer of a case about a month ago in the transfer station off Monster Road Southwest.
In that case someone cut the large copper electrical cables from a big electrical box that powered the conveyer belt for the recycling operations.
