The Department of Ecology is proposing to remove the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton from a statewide list of contaminated sites because the property has undergone cleanup.

The athletic center is the headquarters and training center for the Seattle Seahawks in north Renton on Lake Washington

The center occupies the site of a former wood-treatment plant that operated from 1955 to 1982. Cleanup occurred before and during construction of the athletic center. The work included removal of contaminated lake-bottom sediment.

The southern parcel – where wood treatment occurred – will receive long-term monitoring.

The public can comment until until Dec. 6. Information is available online at http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/tcp/sites/jhbaxter_renton/jhBaxter_hp.html
