Upcoming town halls, property taxes due date and other King County news

Community service program hosts town hall meetings

Residents in unincorporated areas of King County can meet with officials to learn more about grant opportunities available to them and their community.

The King County Community Service Area program is sponsoring the town hall open houses from now until June.

The open houses will run from 7 to 9 p.m.

Northwood Middle School in Fairwood will host one Tuesday, May 9 with council member Reagan Dunn, Budget Director Dwight Dively and Sheriff John Urquhart in attendance.

Maple Hills Elementary School at 15644 204th Ave. SE in Renton will host a town hall Tuesday, May 2. Dunn, Urquhart and Executive Representative Whitney Abrams will be in attendance.

For those in the greater Maple Valley and Cedar River area, an open house is scheduled for Monday, May 15. Dunn, Urquhart and Senior Deputy Executive Fred Jarrett are scheduled to be at this one.

The Hobart Church at 27524 SE 200th Street will host this town hall.

Property taxes due May 1

The first half of 2017 property taxes are due no later than May 1. Any payments collected after that date will collect interest and penalties.

There are a number of different ways for taxpayers to pay their property taxes including:

• Online using King County’s secure online application.

• By mail if postmarked no later than May 1. Taxpayers must include their statement and write their property tax number on their check. Cash should not be sent through the mail.

• At the King County Community Service Centers – locations and operating house can be found at www.kingcounty.gov/CSC.

• Taxpayers can also pay in person at the Treasury Operations at the King County Administration Building in Seattle.

Help seniors get to appointments

The Sound Generations Volunteer Transportation received the 2017 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award for their efforts in helping seniors throughout King County.

More volunteer drivers are currently needed throughout the county.
