The Thomas Jefferson High School Black Student Union is holding a one-day Diversity Teen Summit Saturday, Nov. 3, for high school students from throughout the region to talk about achieving excellence in their lives.

The summit, open to students in the eighth through 12th grades, is 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson High School, 4248 S. 288th St., Auburn. The cost to attend is $10, although there is a payment plan or price cuts for those who cannot afford the cost, according to Christine Juria, an event spokeswoman. Students can register at the door.

There also will be food and a talent show.

“This diverse teen summit is designed to empower and to encourage all youth in our communities, by coming together as a whole and to ignite conversations about achieving excellence in our lives,” she said.

The summit will ask teens, “What hinders you from attaining excellence in every area of your life?”

According to Juria, through guest speakers and workshops the summit will build skills for success:

• Overcome racial barriers to success

• Exercising leadership around health/Birth control/STDs

• Overcoming cultural  and social barriers
