Teen hits head on pavement after ‘surfing’ on top of vehicle

The incident is currently under investigation for consideration of whether charges will be filed.

A 17-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with a head injury after falling off a moving vehicle he was “surfing” on top of, according to police.

Officers responded to the incident at around 8 p.m. on May 16, near the 16700 block of 126th Avenue SE. The incident involved two 17-year-olds, one teen was reportedly driving the vehicle while the other was riding on top of the car.

According to police, the 17-year-old slid off the vehicle when the driver used the brake, causing him to fall off the top of the car and hit his head on the pavement. The teen was transported to Harborview with what police called serious injuries.

Police reported the teen appeared he injured his wrist, head and had some minor lacerations from hitting the pavement.

He was transported to Harborview due to concerns regarding his head injury. A police spokesperson said the teen was conscious and talking when police arrived.

Only one vehicle was involved and was impounded following the incident. A police spokesperson said it appeared that both the minors were “horsing around,” and that they appeared to know each other.

The incident is currently under investigation for consideration of whether or not charges will be filed.
