A man is facing charges in connection with a homicide that occurred Feb. 3 in Renton.
Jose Cruz Victorino, 32, is facing charges of one count of murder in the second degree. In charging documents, the victim was identified as 35-year-old Gabriel Olazon Padilla.
The shooting occurred at Los Jalapenos grocery store at 3700 NE 4th Street around 9:30 p.m. Feb. 3. When he arrived on the scene, the Renton police officer saw a black SUV leaving a parking spot in front of the store with a crowd of people pointing at the vehicle. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle by exiting his patrol car and pointing a rifle at the driver. The driver, later identified as Victorino, drove around the officer.
Another officer followed the SUV until it stopped on the side of the road near Crown Pointe Apartments, where he observed Victorino leave the vehicle and run through the apartments. A K9 track was initiated, but was unsuccessful.
The first officer found Padilla on the floor, not breathing. The man later died of his injuries. Witnesses on the scene and video recording collaborated that Victorino began yelling slurs at a gay couple at the store and began demanding an explanation on why they were there.
After the couple left, Padilla, a patron, walked into the store and Victorino began yelling at Padilla about the couple. Victorino then tried to corner Padilla, who asked the angry man to leave before pushing and punching Victorino, causing him to fall. Victorino then stood and shot Padilla. Victorino was seen on video shooting Padilla multiple times while he was already down.
Police officers were interviewing Victorino’s wife at the Crown Pointe Apartments, where the owner of the vehicle lived, when Victorino walked past them and was detained. Witnesses later identified Victorino as the shooter in the store.
Police found a 9mm Glock 43X registered to Victorino in the glovebox of the SUV. An autopsy showed Padilla was shot 10 times. Ten fired 9mm casings were recovered from the store.
Victorino has a history of misdemeanor offenses with numerous warrants being issued for failing to appear at court, according to documents. Bail was requested to be set at $3 million.
According to King County records, Victorino was previously arrested on Nov. 7, 2025, for driving with a suspended license, before being released the next day. He was still awaiting trial for that charge, which had a bail set at $1,000.
