Gov. Chris Gregoire has appointed Renton-resident Susan Palmer of Renton to the Renton Technical College Board of Trustees.

Palmer is known to many for her work for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District Lodge 751 in Seattle. Palmer replaces Ronnie Little on the board. Little served for 10 years, completing the maximum number of terms allowed for a trustee.

Palmer comes from a business management background which she studied at Bellevue Community College (now Bellevue College). She was hired by Boeing in 1986 and became an active member of her union. After serving as a union steward, as well as holding several positions within her local lodge, Palmer was elected to serve as a full-time business representative in 1996.

She currently serves as the district secretary-treasurer and was elected to that position in 2006. Palmer volunteers for the American Cancer Society, serves as board member of the King County Airport Roundtable, is a delegate to the King County Labor Council and is a precinct committee officer.

She is also a supporter and fundraiser for Guide Dogs of America and helped to organize the “Flight for Sight” fun run, according to a RTC release.
