Steve Litzow wins recount for 41st District state Senate seat

Mercer Island Republican Steve Litzow is the new state senator in the 41st Legislative District.

A machine recount Wednesday and Thursday kept Litzow in front of incumbent state Sen. Randy Gordon, a Democrat. Litzow won the race by 192 votes, 30,030 to 29,838 for Gordon.

The race was for Gordon’s unexpired two-year term. Gordon replaced former state Sen. Fred Jarrett, who was picked by King County Executive Dow Constantine as his deputy county executive.

Litzow ran for the House Position 1 seat two years ago, losing to Marcie Maxwell of Renton. She easily won her second term in the House in the Nov. 2 general election.

Judy Clibborn also easily won re-election to her House Position 2 seat.

King County Elections conducted the recount as the difference between Litzow and Gordon was less that .25 percent of the total. The result will become official on Friday at a special meeting to certify the recount of the Elections Canvassing Board at 3 p.m.
