The Washington State Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Division will participate in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) annual Operation Safe Driver through Saturday.

Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers (CVEO) statewide will conduct comprehensive commercial vehicle inspections and other related roadside enforcement activities focused on driver behavior of both the commercial vehicle and the other vehicles around them.

“Last week our officers were riding in commercial vehicles and targeting cars and trucks that drove aggressively around the big trucks,” said Captain Darrin Grondel, Commercial Vehicle Division Commander. “This week our CVEOs and troopers will focus on inspecting commercial vehicles and the drivers to ensure they are following good safety practices,” said Grondel.

State Patrol participated in 2010 Operation Safe Driver event and inspected 2,133 commercial motor vehicles, placing 233 vehicles and 89 drivers out of service.

Operation Safe Driver will hold activities across the United States, Canada and Mexico that aim to increase commercial vehicle and non-commercial vehicle traffic enforcement; safety belt enforcement; driver roadside inspections; driver regulatory compliance; implementation of commercial driver educational and awareness programs to the motor carrier population; and, awareness to the motoring public about safe operations around commercial motor vehicles.
