The snow the weather service predicted for Wednesday will now come a day early – in time for the Tuesday evening commute.

The National Weather Service in its advisory today indicates the air from the Pacific front is cold enough so that snow will fall across the lowlands.

That snow could affect the evening rush hour; the weather service suggests that commuters leave work early to avoid the accumulating snow.

King County Metro Transit is suggesting transit users should plan ahead for afternoon and evening trips that could be disrupted, delayed, reduced, or on snow routing. Tuesday may start with clear weather, but transit users should leave from a bus stop or park-and-ride that also has service when buses are on snow routes in case travel conditions deteriorate by the afternoon commute.

Before traveling, riders should check the most current status of Metro service. Updates to the online information begin as early as 4 a.m. and continue as needed until the storm is over.

Monday night, the weatherman is calling for a low of 23 degrees in Renton.

The snow is likely to start falling at around 4 p.m., with a high of about 37 on Tuesday. Overnight, up to four inches of snow could accumulate.

The snow won’t last long, however. It will change over to rain early Wednesday morning as warm air follows the cold front. Wednesday’s high is forecast at about 44 degrees, which should wash away the snow.

The rain will continue through the weekend, although snow may fall on Monday, Jan. 17, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
