Skyway apartment fire displaces 7 people

A Skyway apartment caught fire Tuesday morning, displacing seven people.

No one was injured.

While the flames gutted one of the Bella Vista apartments, it only left minor damage in a neighboring unit.

“The person who lived in the apartment had just arrived home to find heavy smoke coming from his front door,” said Dave Nelson, spokesperson for Fire District 20, in a press release. “He went to alert his neighbors by pounding on the doors and windows.”

The one-alarm fire broke out at about 4 a.m. at 13025 64th Ave. S., Seattle, drawing fire trucks from King County, Renton and Tukwila.

When the firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-bedroom apartment.

Power was cut to the four-unit complex out of concern for possible electric damage.

The Seattle chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the apartment’s residents.

The King County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the cause of the fire. A damage estimate wasn’t immediately available.
