Sewer project to close parts of Sunset Boulevard Northeast, Exit 4 ramp and Houser Way this week

The closures will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning tonight, Sept. 6. through Sept. 8 and again from Sept. 11-15.

The City of Renton will temporarily close a portion of three roads as part of the city’s Central Renton Interceptor Sanitary Sewer Replacement construction project.

The closures will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning tonight,  Sept. 6. through Sept. 8 and again from Sept. 11-15.

The road closures include:

Sunset Boulevard North

All southbound lanes of Sunset Boulevard North will be closed between the northbound I-405 on-ramp and North Third Street.

Southbound motorists proceeding past the intersection of Sunset Boulevard Northeast and Bronson Way Northeast (entrance to the Windsor Hills neighborhood) will be directed onto northbound I-405.

Motorists will be detoured to Edmonds Avenue Northeast for access to Northeast Third Street. Two lanes of northbound Sunset Blvd N will remain open during the construction.

Exit 4 Southbound I-405

Exit 4 on southbound I-405 will be closed at the same time as Sunset Boulevard North. Southbound I-405 motorists who normally use Exit 4 will need to use Exit 2 (Talbot Road South) or Exit 5 (Northeast Park Drive).

Houser Way Bypass

The Houser Way Bypass will be closed in both directions at the same time as the Sunset Boulevard North and I-405 off-ramp closures.

Crews from the city will be replacing approximately 122 linear feet of existing 12-inch vitrified clay sewer main with new 24-inch PCV sewer main, the replacement of one existing 72-inch sanitary sewer manhole with a new 84-inch manhole, the rehabilitation of approximately 559 linear feet of 24” vitrified clay sewer with Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) and associated roadway and landscape restoration.

City Council awarded the construction contract to Road Construction Northwest, Inc., in the amount of $393,970.05, at its regular meeting on June 22, 2015.
