A second suspect implicated in the attack of an elderly Renton couple early last year was arrested Wednesday after an investigation of cell phone and cell tower records tied him to the crime.

The suspect was booked into the King County jail on charges of Robbery and Assault.

On January 24, 2015, suspects broke into a home in the 4100 block of Wells Avenue North. Responding Officers discovered that the elderly couple who lived there had been brutally beaten in the course of a home invasion robbery.

The victims were an 86-year-old man and his 74-year-old wife. The suspect had entered through a sliding glass door and attacked the couple., leaving them both with serious head injuries, including skull fractures..

On April 14, DNA evidence collected by a Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team led Renton Detectives to arrest 49-year-old Anthony Shaw, a convicted felon from Spokane.

Using cell phone and cell tower records, detectives continued to investigate and were able to identify a second person who was with Anthony Shaw near the scene of the home invasion when it occurred.

The 33-year-old suspect arrested on Wednesday was Shaw’s cellmate in the Walla Walla Penitentiary in 2012. Interviews of the suspect’s acquaintances, including one where he confessed to the crime, provided detectives with additional information that led to his arrest in Federal Way.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
