Renton Technical College’s Childcare Center will hold a free Health and Safety Carnival on July 18 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Activities will include face and hair painting, children’s identification cards, story telling with a local librarian, fishing, bean bag toss, crafts, literacy and a health table and food. The Childcare Center is at 3000 N.E. Fourth Street, in Building M, at the north end of campus.

City student named
Outstanding Graduate
Western Washington University graduate Richard “Mitch” Coleman, was named an Outstanding Graduate in the College of Sciences and Technology’s Computer Science department for the 2007-2008 academic year at the June 14 commencement.
Faculty members from each academic department selected one graduate to honor as Outstanding Graduate of the year. Selection is based on grades, research and writing, service to the campus and community and promise for the future.
Coleman graduated with a Bachelor of Science in computer science and a minor in mathematics. While at Western, Coleman maintained a 4.0 GPA in his major and a 3.96 overall GPA. He was a member of the WWU chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and worked as a teacher’s assistant in his department. Coleman began work as a software developer for Adobe Systems, Inc. in July.
He is the son of Richard Coleman of Renton and Debora Garland of Covington.

summer graduation
Renton Technical College’s Summer Graduation Ceremony is Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. in the south parking lot of the campus. An earlier notice incorrectly said the ceremony was Aug. 8. The last day of Summer Quarter is Aug. 8.
Lane closures set
on I-90 over lake
Late-night drivers should plan for overnight lane and ramp closures on I-90 in Mercer Island due to construction activities through Friday.
Crews are adding HOV lanes to the I-90 outer roadway between the cities of Mercer Island and Bellevue.
