Rotary Youth of the Month for September

Rotary Club of Renton has selected their Youth of the Month for September.

  • Nick Kawamoto is a Hazen High School senior with a 3.0 grade point average (GPA).
  • He has been a part of the Highlander Club Senate, Ignite mentoring, DECA, tennis and is senior class president.

    He’s won state and national rankings in the Washington DECA.

    He volunteers with Highlands Community Church, teaching Sunday School classes.

    He plans to attend a four-year college to study science and hopes to pursue a career in chemistry.

  • Cynthia Pham is a Lindbergh High School with a 3.4 GPA.
  • She’s participated with DECA, Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Medical Explorers and is senior class president.

    She’s received Washington DECA awards, honor roll and student of the month in various subjects.

    She works parttime at Hollister and has volunteered with the American Cancer Society, Renton Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House and Make A Wish Foundation.

    Pham hopes to attend Eastern Washington University to double major in public health and biology with a minor in social work.

    She hopes to attend Pennsylvania State University for medical school, where she hopes to become a pediatric oncologist.

  • Vanessa Tran is a Renton High School senior with a 3.1 GPA.
  • She has participated in Key Club, Green Team, Renton High Basketball, track and field and is the ASB senior class president.

    She has been awarded a letter in varsity basketball, track and field letter and various sports awards.

    She volunteers with Relay for Life.

    She plans to attend Washington State University then to attend law school at Gonzaga University.

    Vanessa hopes to pursue a career with the FBI and to spend her spare time helping build homes for families in Africa or Mexico.

    Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month. After being selected by counselors at each of the district’s three comprehensive high schools, a selection committee of Rotary members reviews applications and interviews students to identify those who will be selected as Youth of the Month. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade point average, participate in school activities and volunteer in their community.
