Rotarians honor December’s Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Renton has recognized three high school students for December in its Youth of the Month program.

The Rotary Club of Renton has recognized three high school students for December in its Youth of the Month program.

• Adriel Johnson is a senior at Hazen High School. He holds a 3.9 GPA.

Johnson has been a member of Earthcore and National Honor Society and is president of National Honor Society.

He also participates in basketball, cross-country and track, and is a Rain City Fencing D-Rank Tournament Champion. He has earned varsity letters.

He received honorable mention in a Reflections essay contest, has been on Honor Roll, is a Student Achiever, and won the Masonic Lodge Outstanding Junior Achievement.

As a volunteer, Johnson helps plan and organize food drives for Northwest Harvest.

He plans to attend Brigham Young University. He also plans to take part in a two-year mission trip and continue his education at a university to become a professor of economics or international studies.

• Amanda Nguyen is a senior at Lindbergh High School. She holds a 3.9 GPA.

Nguyen is a member of Key Club, Environmental Club and International Club. She is vice president of Medical Explorers and chairperson of Prom Committee.

She has received Classroom Student of the Month awards and volunteers with an after-school homework club.

Nguyen plans to attend the University of Washington to pursue a career in dentistry or the pharmaceutical industry. She also plans to own a medical practice.

• Joseph Holifield Jr. is a senior at Renton High School. He holds a 3.0 GPA.

Holifield Jr. is a member of Key Club, Green Team, Link Leaders and Jazz Band. He is also captain of the basketball team.

He has received an Honor Roll award, MVP award for basketball been nominated for a Presidential Award.

Holifield Jr. has volunteered at the Senior Citizens’ Dinner, Christmas bazaars, wheelchair basketball games and Relay for Life.

He works part-time at PACCAR.

Holifield Jr. plans to attend a four-year college and play basketball. He wants to pursue a career in dentistry or culinary arts. He wants to own a business.

The students and their parents are honored guests at a regular Rotary luncheon.
