Rep. Maxwell win’s re-election; judicial candidates Tracy, Williams in tight race

State Rep. Marcie Maxwell of Renton has won her second term in the state House of Representatives.

Her lead over Mercer Island Republican Peter Dunbar in their general-election race for Maxwell’s 41st District House Position 1 seat has continued to grow since election night.

The vote tally released Friday afternoon showed Maxwell, a Democrat, with 53 percent of the vote and Dunbar with 47 percent of the vote.

In numbers, that’s 24,120 for Maxwell and 21,366 for Dunbar.

“We ran a strong and positive campaign and are thankful to show as lead in the first count on election night,” said Maxwell after the iintial results were released.

Maxwell’s district includes Mercer Island and parts of Renton, Bellevue and Newcastle.

Dunbar is a physician. This is his first run for elective office.

In another closely watched local race, David Tracy and Matt Williams are locked in an extremely tight race for Southeast District Court Judicial Position 6. Williams has 50.43 percent of the vote to Tracy’s 49.04 percent as of Friday, a slight increase for Williams.

Elsewhere in the 41st District, Steve Litzow, a Republican, continues his lead over incumbent Randy Gordon, a Democrat, for Gordon’s Senate seat, although it has narrowed. Litzow has 51.14 percent of the vote to Gordon’s 48.76 percent, following Friday’s count.

Five legislative districts cover Renton. They are the 5th District, the 11th District, the 37th District, the 41st District and the 47th District.

In the 47th District, which includes parts of east Renton, incumbent state Sen. Claudia Kauffman, a Democrat, has conceded to her opponent, Republican Joe Fain. And Democrat Geoff Simpson has lost his long-time House seat to Republican opponent, Mark Hargrove.

The county Elections Office will release the latest vote tally at about 4:30 p.m. weekdays. The election will be certified on Nov. 23.
