Rep. Maxwell assigned to key economic committee in House

Rep.-elect Marcie Maxwell (D-Renton) will serve as vice chair of the Community and Economic Development and Trade Committee when the House of Representatives begins the new legislative session next month. She also will serve on the Education and Capital Budget Committees.

“Now is absolutely the right time to make investments in economic development and capital projects that will strengthen our state’s infrastructure and create jobs. I’m excited to use my business background to make progress on these issues,” Maxwell said.

A longtime elected Renton School Board director, she looks forward to her work on the Education Committee.

“We must focus on education and on ensuring that schools are adequately funded and education programs meet the challenges of the 21st century. Even in tough budget times, we need to stay focused on strong support for our children and schools,” Maxwell said.

In addition to her committee work, Maxwell indicated that during the legislative session she will also be focused on addressing transportation issues, improving access to healthcare, promoting a new green economy and supporting affordable and accessible housing for all.

Maxwell was elected on Nov. 4 and will begin her first term on Jan. 12. The 41st District includes parts of Reton, Bellevue, Issaquah, Mercer Island and Newcastle.
