First Church of Christ, Scientist, part of the Renton community for more than 80 years, will hold its final service on Wednesday (Aug. 29) now that it has merged with its counterpart in Burien.
The church opened as a Christian Science society in 1929, meeting at a residence at 220 Whitworth Ave. S. Over the years, the house was transformed into a church building that is now a Renton landmark. The building has been sold and in September, it will become the new home for another church.
“Our church has a long history in Renton,” said Marsha Rockabrand, church president. “We’ve loved being part of the community and hope that we’ve served it well. We’re talking with our church family in Burien about where to locate our merged church — so we expect to still be an easy drive on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening.”
Until the new church is open, services will be held at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Burien at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The church is located at 233 S. 156th Street in Burien.
When a decision is made about the new location, the church will post details at csrenton.com.
