The Renton Salvation Army’s annual Need Knows No Season fund-raising banquet at the Spirit of Washington Event Center Thursday drew lots of people, but brought in less money than expected. The banquet raised $41,000.

That’s $10,000 less than the goal and last year’s revenue. Still, about $30,0000 of that money will help provide emergency shelter for about 80 families over the next year. The remaining $10,000 will go toward general expenses.

Captain Terry Masango says the event drew 184 people, more than last year’s 140.

“We can certainly tell the economy has slowed down a lot,” Masango says. “The people who helped us a lot in the past were struggling to do it this year.”

Still, Masango tags the event a success.

“Overall it went well,” he said. “We are very happy with the turnout and community support … It’s a great thing. The community empowered us to reach out to a few more families.”
