Renton Rotary: Youth of the Month

Rotary Club of Renton honors the February Youth of the Month

Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month. February Rotary Club of Renton Youth of the Month are:

Andy Luu is a senior at Hazen High School. Luu holds a 3.9 GPA. He has been involved in Key Club, FBLA, HOSA, Chef Club, STEAM Club, National Honor Society, East Hill String Lessons Gordy Guides and Cross Country, and has received Microsoft Office Master Certification, Academic All-Star, FBLA Regional first place, Scholar Athlete, AP Scholar and Varsity Letter. He works part-time at Baskin Robbins and volunteers with Key Club International. Luu plans to attend a four-year university to major in biology or computer programming. He would like to become either a bio-chemical engineer or a computer programmer.

Huy Manh senior at Lindbergh High School. Manh holds a 3.1 GPA and has been a member of Key Club (Treasurer), FBLA (President), DECA, Environmental Club and Varsity Tennis. He has earned several FBLA Midwest Regional awards and Key Club Member of the Month. He volunteers with the city of Renton Farmers Market during the summer. Manh plans to attend a college or university to study astronomy and physics and would like to minor in drama. He hopes to earn a bachelor and master’s degree and one day become an astrophysicist.

Vincent Hong is a senior at Renton High School. Vincent holds a 3.5 GPA. and is involved in Key Club, Anime Club, Acapella, Drama Club, ASB President, Tennis and Swim. He has received various awards for sports, Honor Roll and Matter of the Heart. He volunteers with the Salvation Army and the Renton Youth Council. Hong would like to attend either a university or college and is interested in studying optometry. After his schooling he hopes to work in the field of optometry or may be interested in becoming a computer programmer.

After being selected by counselors at each of the district’s three comprehensive high schools, a selection committee of Rotary members reviews applications and interviews students to identify those who will be selected as Youth of the Month. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade point average, participate in school activities and volunteer in their community.

The students and their parents are honored guests at a regular Rotary luncheon.
