Renton Rotary Club has selected its Youth of the Month for February.
• Kaela Nurmi is a senior at Hazen High School. She holds a 3.9 grade point average (GPA.).
She has been involved in Highlander Club, National Honor Society, swim team, as captain, Highlander News, Ignite, drama, ASB, orchestra, Washington Association of Student Council and Leadership Class. Nurmi has received varsity letters in swim, Scholar Athlete, Coach’s Award, for swim. She works part time as a lifeguard and swim instructor at Lakeridge Swim Club. Nurmi volunteers with Seafair and she was a teen Ambassador for the 2009-10 Seafair Celebration. She plans to attend an out-of-state college to study engineering and compete on the school’s swim team. Nurmi also plans to spend one year studying abroad. She hopes to become an engineer.
• JoeAnn Park is a senior at Lindbergh High School. She holds a 3.7 GPA.
Park has been a member of ASB, as president; DECA, as vice president; Key Club; FBLA, as treasurer; tennis and dance team. Park has received WIAA Distinguished Scholastic Award, DECA Area IV finalist, DECA Member of the Month, and Student of the Month Subject Award. She works part-time at Jimmy John’s Restaurant; volunteers with the Tree of Life Church, playing piano during worship services. Park plans to attend a four-year university to earn a degree in international business and minor in music. She hopes to own her own business and teach piano.
• Alexandra Nieves is senior at Renton High School. She holds a 3.8 G.P.A.
She is involved in Ignite, Future of the Law Institute, University of Washington Dream Project, yearbook, and girls’ varsity soccer. Nieves has received honor roll, Miss Tacoma Teen USA, Miss Photogenic Washington Teen USA and volunteers with the Latina Health Fair. She plans to attend a four-year university followed by three years of law school in hopes to become an attorney. Nieves plans to run and own a law firm of her own.
