Renton Rotary Club honors May Youth of the Month

Rotary Club of Renton has selected Youth of the Month for May:

Constance La is a senior at Hazen High School. La holds a 3.9 grade point average (G.P.A.). She has been involved in Gordy’s Guides, National Honor Society, Key Club, STEM Club, FBLA, East Hill String Lessons, orchestra and tennis. La has received Academic All-Stars, scholar athlete, Outstanding Junior, AAUW Technology Award, Microsoft Office Specialist Certification and AP Scholar with honors. She plans to attend a four-year university to study computer science. La hopes to become a computer programmer or software engineer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Benoney Puga is a senior at Lindbergh High School. He holds a 3.77 G.P.A. Puga has been involved in the FIRST Robotics Team and various summer camps. He has earned “Most Inspirational” and “Most Dependable” from Lindbergh’s FIRST Robotics Team. He volunteers as a mentor to other students to help them understand robotics concepts. After high school, Puga hopes to attend a university to major in mechanical engineering. He plans to work for companies involving the manufacturing of cars, airplanes or heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Savannah Smith is a senior at Renton High School. Smith holds a 3.7 G.P.A. She has been involved in varsity track and field, varsity soccer and Summer Search Seattle. Smith has received the Matter of the Heart Student Award, First team All-State Honors, honorable mention in soccer and many other sports recognitions. She has volunteered with the Emergency Feeding Program, Twisp Works and Exploradores (in Costa Rica). Smith plans to attend a four-year university to study marine biology and to run track. She hopes to have a hands-on career in marine biology and have a positive impact on the quality of marine life.

 

Rotary recognizes three Renton School District high school students each month. After being selected by counselors at each of the district’s three comprehensive high schools, a selection committee of Rotary members reviews applications and interviews students to identify those who will be selected. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade point average, participate in school activities and volunteer in their community.

The students and their parents are honored guests at a Rotary luncheon.
