Renton resident named BECU Volunteer of the Year

BECU donated $30,000 to REACH in honor of Karen Wimberley's work with the organization.

Karen Wimberley, who spends over 400 hours a year volunteering at Renton based REACH, was recognized as the BECU Volunteer of the Year.

To acknowledge the impact she is having on the Renton community, BECU has donated $30,000 to REACH in support of their work in offering Renton residents in need, a day center, emergency overnight shelter, and a meal program. This award will also assist them in moving into a new facility as they must vacate their current facility by the end of this month.

As part of the BECU People Helping People Awards which were established to acknowledge and celebrate the nonprofits in the community that members support through volunteering or providing monetary contributions the Member Volunteer of the Year Award recognized the BECU member who makes the most impact to their community through their volunteer efforts.

More than 250 nominations were submitted by members and BECU awarded $170,000 to 13 local nonprofit organizations.
