Renton Regional Fire Authority responds to fire at Vuemont Apartments

Two individuals were transported to the hospital after a medical evaluation at the scene.

During the late afternoon on Feb. 27, the Renton Regional Fire Authority was dispatched to the Vuemont Apartment Complex at 351 Vuemont Pl. NE after neighbors called to report smoke coming from the building.

The minor fire response was initially dispatched consisting of three different vehicle units, according to Renton Regional Fire Authority Public Information Officer, Sara Morris. Shortly after, Valley Communications upgraded the response to a commercial fire after receiving reports of smoke coming from seams in the roof. Five additional units were dispatched.

A person was treated by one of the units and was later transported to the hospital after an evaluation. An additional person was found during a search of the building. The victim had visual and hearing impairments and was carried out of the building. The second person was also evaluated and transported to the hospital.

Morris said she was unaware of the extent of their injuries as of March 1.

According to Morris, the fire did not extend much beyond the main fire on the second floor. The main unit where the fire took place received significant damage.

Fire investigators on scene said they believe the fire was caused by a portable space heater.
