Renton Police get shot at by man barricaded in house

The suspect is believed to set the house on fire before being apprehended.

Just after 3 this morning, Renton police officers were dispatched to the 114000 block of SE 117th after reports of an individual who barricaded themselves with a firearm.

Family members inside the home reported a distraught adult male relative who had fled into an upstairs bedroom with a gun. When the family members heard gunshots they called 911, no injuries were reported, according to a RPD spokesperson.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers witnessed the subject firing shots outside of the bedroom window before he began firing shots directly at responding officers.

Officers were able to safely evacuate those who were in the house as well as those who were in adjacent households.

Shortly after, an alarm sounded in the house as smoke began to pour out of the upstairs windows. Police believe the suspect started on the second floor which quickly spread in the house, engulfing it in flames.

Eventually the barricaded subject exited the home and was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing according to a RPD spokesperson.
