Renton police fatally shoot man after knife confrontation

Officers responded to a domestic violence call in a Renton apartment complex around 11 p.m. on May 6.

Renton police fatally shot a man after he confronted officers with a knife on Wednesday night, department officials say.

At around 11 p.m. May 6, Renton officers responded to a domestic violence call in an apartment complex at 1150 Sunset Boulevard NE in Renton, according to Cmdr. David Leibman for Renton police.

Armed with a knife, the man confronted the officers, who then fatally shot the man. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the involved officers were not injured, Leibman said.

This incident is being investigated by the Valley Independent Investigation Team (VIIT), a multi-agency team made up of detectives and crime scene professionals from seven South King County police departments (Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Tukwila and Port of Seattle).

Because the case involves Renton officers, Renton personnel are not participating in the investigation.
