The Renton Police Department alerted the public to some thieves targeting jewelry from people in parking lots as well as in grocery stores, strip malls and markets.
According to the Renton Police Department (RPD), it has seen an uptick in jewelry thefts in the area. The department said the thieves are usually one or two women who try to distract people, and then quickly grab jewelry and run.
“They move around the country, and right now they’re targeting our region. The best defense is awareness,” the department stated. “If something doesn’t feel right, trust your gut and keep your distance. And remember, if you ever feel unsafe, call 911 right away.”
