Renton police blotter | May 25 edition

A summary of recent incidents in Renton.

Shooting

Renton police dispatched on May 10 at approximately 10:50 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 900 block of Sunset Lane Northeast near the Highlands Library.

Officers located a woman in her early 20s at the scene with a gunshot wound to her leg, according to the department. Witnesses advised police a large group gathered in the area for a fight when shots rang out and everyone fled the area.

First responders transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.Another subject reported being sprayed with pepper spray, but declined aid.

According to the department, as of May 15, police have no additional reports of victims. Police also have no suspect information.

Armed robbery

Renton police responded on May 8 at 3:58 a.m. to a report of an armed robbery at a gas station located in the 4700 block of Sunset Boulevard Northeast.

Dispatch advised several subjects robbed the store, with one subject armed with a gun, and fled the scene eastbound in a dark-colored vehicle. According to the department, all suspects were dressed in black with face masks.

Officers spoke with the employee who sustained a minor injury to his eye as a result of the incident, according to the department. The employee described the suspects as possibly all juveniles.

The employee advised police that several, what appeared to be juvenile men, entered the store. Concerned that he was about to be robbed, the employee attempted to push the subjects back out the door when one of them punched him in the face, according to the department.

He then observed one of the juveniles start to pull a handgun from his pocket. The suspects ran from the store, dropping a stolen bottle of vodka on the ground as they fled.

Other than the vodka and soda, nothing else has been reported as stolen from the business, according to the department.

Vehicular assault

Renton police dispatched on May 11 at approximately 2:35 a.m. to a vehicle theft in progress at Walmart in the 700 block of Rainier Avenue South.

According to the department, approximately four minutes prior, a woman stole the reporting party’s vehicle. The reporting party hopped on the hood of the vehicle and the suspect sped off.

The reporting party fell off the hood and hit their head, resulting in minor injuries, according to the department.

When questioned further, the victim advised they saw some friends in the parking lot, so they stopped their vehicle and got out to speak to them, leaving the vehicle running with the keys in the ignition, according to the department.

According to the victim, the suspect, known to the victim, jumped into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and began to drive it away. The victim attempted to stop the vehicle by getting in front of it and the suspect sped up while approaching the victim, hitting them head-on.

The victim then jumped on the hood at the impact, rolled off, and hit their head on the pavement. Following their statement, the victim was transported to Valley Medical for treatment of their injuries, according to the department.
