Customer assaults

tavern employee

An employee at Pounders Bar on Main Street reported to Renton Police officers that he was assaulted by a drunken man, who then fled the bar, at about 12:45 a.m. Sept. 19.

The employee described the male as white, around 5-foot-8 and 200 pounds, with brown hair and wearing black clothing, according to police.

The suspect, a Renton man, entered the bar but was told he would not be served due to being too intoxicated already, according to police. The suspect became angry but was escorted out of the bar by a family member. About 15 minutes later, the suspect re-entered the bar and started knocking over tables and kicking stools.

The suspect walked directly toward the employee and appeared angry, as if he was ready to fight, according to the police report. Fearful, the employee grabbed the man in a bear hug in hopes of escorting him from the bar.

Instead, according to police, the suspect immediately dropped to the ground and tackled the employee by his legs. The employee fell onto his back and the suspect punched him several times, according to police.

An officer found the suspect hiding behind a Dumpster. He was booked for investigation of fourth-degree assault at Renton City Jail.
