Renton man killed Thursday morning in accident near Greenwater

A 38-year-old Renton man was killed in an accident on State Route 410 near Greenwater at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The State Patrol was not releasing his name immediately because his family had not yet been notified.

A witness told state troopers the man was eastbound in his Ford Explorer, when he apparently tried to pass another car. The Explorer suddenly drove off the roadway and struck a tree head-on, according to the State Patrol press release. The driver, who was alone in the car, died at the scene.

The road was bare and wet, with some slush. The collision is still under investigation but speed too fast for the road conditions was a major factor, according to the State Patrol.
