For the fourth time, the RentonFilm Frenzy is showcasing the talent of local filmmakers and the entertainment that Renton has to offer.

For the fourth time, the RentonFilm Frenzy is showcasing the talent of local filmmakers and the entertainment that Renton has to offer.

Seventeen teams of filmmakers took to the streets on Renton earlier this month to make four-minute films that will vie for the coveted Curvee Award at the Renton FilmFrenzy IV Curvee Awards Gala Tuesday.

The night before, all 17 films will screen at the Renton Civic Theatre, the first time in the festival’s history the public will have a chance to see all the films in one place.

Bill Huls, the theatre’s long-time artistic director, said the FilmFrenzy Screening “showcases RCT by showing the community we are here.” Even some longtime residents don’t know the theater exists, he said.

The festival is also a way to showcase Renton, he said.

“Film Frenzy is a great way to expose the City of Renton to people outside our city,” he said. “Many people who do not live in Renton do not realize how much we have to offer in the fine and performing arts.”

The screening starts at 7 p.m. Renton Civic Theatre is at 507 S. Third St., downtown.

Those attending the screening will vote for their favorite film. The most popular film will receive a special Renton FilmFrenzy Screening Curvee Award at the Curvee Awards Gala on Tuesday.

The awards ceremony starts at 7 p.m. at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center. There are numerous awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Use of Renton, that will be presented, along with $1,700 in cash prizes.

Then on Wednesday at 7 p.m. is the Downtown FilmTalk, when filmmakers will discuss their work and their filmmaking process at three locations. There’s a raffle for 2012 SIFF-Renton tickets and gift certificates from downtown Renton businesses for those who attend.

The Renton Reporter will again host the online voting for the People’s Choice Award at rentonreporter.com. The voting will start mid-week, with the winner announced in the Nov. 11 Renton Reporter.

The judges this year are Dustin Kaspar, Seattle International Film Festival; Dan Molvar, MagicHour Films; Jim Dever, KING 5 TV; Bill Huls, Renton Municipal Arts Commission, and Teresa Mozur, Reel Grrls.
