Renton communications director assumes new responsibilities

Preeti Shridhar, the City of Renton’s longtime communications director, has been appointed the city’s deputy public affairs administrator.

The change, effective this month, is part of a reorganization of the Mayor’s Office.

Shridhar will assume some responsibilities once held by the assistant chief administrative officer, a position that had been eliminated due to budget reductions; she’ll continue to lead the city’s communications division.

The salary is $122,664, about a 9 percent increase over her current salary.

Shridhar started work for Renton in August 2006. She has an extensive government background, which includes working for Seattle Public Utilities.

The job of assistant chief administrative officer was last held by Marty Wine, who was hired as the city manager of Tigard, Ore., last fall.

Shridhar now will  assist in representing Renton on regional committees and task forces, work in collaboration with elected and appointed officials in neighboring communities, and develop and present citywide strategic plans, according to a city press release.

She will serve as lead negotiator for the city on many intergovernmental contracts and issues and participate on or lead cross-departmental work groups as part of her new responsibilities. She will develop and implement programs and policies to meet the city’s long-term goals related to diversity and cultural outreach, and will continue to be responsible for all communications strategies, according to the city.

“Preeti is an effective leader and communicator and I am confident she will be successful in this new assignment,” said Mayor Denis Law. “This reorganization will streamline city operations and result in an overall savings of over $250,000 for the 2013-2014 budget.”
