Renton Civic Theater offering benefit play to save Renton pools

The Renton Civic Theater is hosting a special benefit performance of the play “Here on the Flight Path” for the “Save Renton Pools” fund.

Doors open for the special preview performance at 7 p.m., April 7 at the theater, 507 S. Third St. in Renton.

The community must raise $60,000 by July to keep both the Hazen and Lindbergh pools open. Proceeds from ticket sales and the concessions stand will go toward the fund to save the pools.

This year the Renton School District, because of budget cuts, could not afford to make up the difference between revenues from the pools and the expenses.

Community organizers are looking for fund-raising opportunities like this special performance to help raise funds.

“Here on the Flight Path” is a play about the musings of one John Cummings, a lonely, divorced, back-porch philosopher. Over the course of 3 1/2 years, three women occupy the apartment next door and he reflects on his relationship with his neighbors.

Organizers give the play a PG (parental guidance) rating for the mention of alcohol and some swearing.

Tickets will be sold in advance and at the door for $15.

To purchase a ticket in advance or make a donation, send checks payable to “Hazen Booster Club” to “Save Renton Pools” c/o Heidi Welker, Hazen High School, 1101 Hoquiam Ave. N.E., Renton, WA 98059. For more information email hdwelker@yahoo.com.
