RENTON BLOTTER: Abused dogs, stolen beer and a car pushed into the river

The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports:

Car pushed into river

A Renton man’s ’91 Toyota Camry was stolen and driven into the Cedar River near the community center, Dec. 21.

The car was found 15 feet from the bank and under 3 feet of water, with its lights and windshield wipers still on.

The Renton Fire Dive team found the car was empty and a pair of scissors had been jammed into the ignition.

Officers found “donut” marks in the dirt in a nearby railroad track, and the car appeared to have driven over a curb at a high rate of speed.

Police found two piles of class in the gravel, leading them to conclude that the cars’ three broken windows were smashed there.

It appeared that a broken axe handle was used to hold down the accelerator.

The car appeared to be pushed down a ravine into the river.

Man dies at gym

A Renton who had a quadruple heart bypass three days before, died at LA Fitness Center at The Landing, Dec. 7.

The man in his early 60s was greeted by an acquaintance working out in the gym, before he fell to the ground, scraping his head.

A Tacoma firefighter performed CPR with the help of two gym employees.

The King County Medical Examiner said the death was natural.

Pit bulls abused

Renton Animal Control impounded two pit bulls after one was reported so sick that it couldn’t lift its head.

When the officer arrived, he observed that the dogs’ five-gallon water buckets were frozen, and “the male pit bull was licking the top of the ice,” according to the report.

The two dogs were kept chained on opposite sides of the yard so they could not reach each other, on the 600 block of Hoquiam Avenue Northeast, Dec. 11.

The kennel was full of feces, which appeared to be diarrhea. The owner later explained it was because of a change in their diet.

Rose, the female, had a severe ear infection, and the male, called Deadlift, had severe tooth decay and infected sores on his body.

Both dogs were put on intravenous fluids and antibiotics, before being transferred to the kennel for safe keeping.

The owner was given two citations for animal cruelty and two infractions for not licensing his pets.

Beaten for beer

A man was drinking beer under a bridge near the Renton Public Library when four youths from the skate park mugged him, Dec. 27.

Police have been contacted by several transients who have reported the same suspects beating them up for their beer.

Assault on Sunset

An unidentified man jumped out of the bushes and broke a Renton man’s shin with a silver baseball bat, before running off on the 4500 block of Northeast Sunset Boulevard.

The victim, in his early 20s, didn’t know the suspect or why he was attacked Dec. 6.

A girl in her late teens was walking with the man, when he was attacked. She fled thinking the suspect was after her backpack.

Both the witness and the victim offered conflicting descriptions of the suspect.

Trespass

A transient male was arrested for trespassing, after yelling foul language in the Safeway parking lot on Northeast Fourth Street, Dec. 29.

Robber maced

A Renton woman sprayed a man in the face with mace after he tried to rob her in her home, Dec. 12.

A man knocked on her door asking for help, before demanding her purse on the 2400 block of Meadow Avenue North, Renton.

The woman said “No,” before the suspect punched her in the face, breaking her glasses.

She sprayed the man with mace she was holding, and he fled.

Police showed the woman a montage based on the suspect description, but she didn’t recognize any of the suspects.

Espresso robbery

A man confirmed with a Boulevard Bean employee that there was surveillance footage being taken of him, before robbing her Dec. 15.

The woman was in shock when he demanded the money, and he repeated “Don’t make me shoot you lady!” before taking about $100 in cash from the espresso stand across the street from Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park.

Drunken crash

A man hit a street sign and jersey barrier on the 2500 block of Maple Valley Highway, before falling asleep in his car at Maplewood Golf Course.

A woman heard a crash on the roadway, before calling police and checking to see if the vehicle went into the river Dec. 30.

Police arrived to find the car missing, but identified the car from debris in the roadway as a black SUV with gold trim.

The same officer found the suspect sleeping in his car 20 minutes later.

Though unable to get out of the passenger’s side of the car, because of the damage, the man denied being in an accident.

The officer led him to the driver’s side of the vehicle, to point out a flat tire and broken bumper.

The man used an expletive with a slurred voice at the revelation that he had been in an accident.

He had at least 5 previous driving under the influence convictions.

Pickpocket

A man’s wallet with its $450 in cash was picked from his jacket after he left it hanging exposed on a chair Christmas Eve.

A woman pulled the items from his jacket, before leaving Freddie’s Club at 111 S. 3rd St.
