Work on improvements to Rainier Avenue will close a short stretch of Southwest/South Seventh Street overnight near its intersection with Rainier the week of Sept. 3.

The contractor is working on a water main in the area.

Closures are 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Drivers should expect delays and detours. Area businesses may experience temporary water outages during this work as well.

The two-year, $42 million project will improve Rainier from South Grady Way to South Second Street, with wider sidewalks, landscaped planter strips and medians, upgraded street lighting and improved transit mobility.

Several underground utilities will also be relocated, including gas, electricity and telecommunications.

More information is available online on the Rainier Avenue South Improvement Project, including the project schedule, weekly updates, and photos and maps of construction activities. For questions or comments, email info@rainierproject.com or call the 24-hour construction hotline at 425-988-4104.
