Race of KFC armed robber now in question

The race of the suspect in the armed robbery of the KFC Wednesday morning is now in question.

“Our initial information was that the suspect was a black male; but as the investigation continued, the witness isn’t sure of the suspect’s race,” Terri Vickers, a spokeswoman for the Renton Police Department, wrote in an email Thursday afternoon.

The suspect was covered completely in clothes and armed with a shotgun when he robbed the restaurant on Carr Road in the North Benson Shopping Plaza just before 11 a.m.

Black and white surveillance photos show the man wearing black pants, a camouflage hoodie, dark gloves that might possibly have been black with a white stripe and a black bandana with a white print design on it over his face, according to Vickers.

“But nothing else is identifiable,” she wrote. “The suspect was very calm and casual in his demeanor, which may indicate that this wasn’t his first robbery.”

The description the Police Department released Wednesday indicated the man was of medium build and there was no age range.

The investigation is continuing.
