Power outage hits south Renton, Southcenter area

About 930 customers of Puget Sound Energy were without power for about a half hour late Monday morning in south Renton and the Southcenter area starting at about 11:45 a.m., according to a utility spokesman.

A worker not employed by Puget Sound Energy or one of its contractors was using a lifter to do some elevated work at Southwest 170th Street and West Valley Highway when the lift came in contact with a transmission line, according to PSE spokesman Andy Wappler.

In essence, a circuit breaker was tripped at a Renton substation, protecting the system but causing the outage, according to Wappler.

Power was restored at about 12:15 p.m.
