POLICE BLOTTER: Teen stabbed walking on river path

The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports.

A 17-year-old Renton boy was stabbed after leaving the Renton Library on Jan. 15.

The boy was coming from the library at about 4 p.m. and walked north on the Cedar River pathway. As he walked toward the Wells Avenue bridge, he noticed an unknown man walk out from under the bridge. The man approached the boy, bumped him with his shoulder, mumbled something, then grabbed at his waist pocket area. The two wrestled on the ground and the boy noticed the man had a four-inch shiny knife blade in his right hand.

The suspect ran away down the stairs to the river headed in the direction of the library.

The boy discovered he had a two-inch laceration to his left knee. He ran to his father’s home and the boy’s father took him to Valley Medical Center.

Police returned to the area of Wells Avenue North and Riverside Drive North and didn’t find any evidence.

Vehicle theft

Two Renton teenagers attempted to steal several vehicles from a parking lot in the 1400 block of Union Avenue Northeast on Jan. 29.

A woman spotted the two breaking into cars from her residence and called the police.

When police arrived they had to chase down the 16-year-old male suspect with a police dog. The other suspect, an 18-year-old woman, stopped right in her tracks holding a grocery bag overflowing with clothing and other items. The woman denied breaking into the cars, taking anything from the vehicles and refused to give her relationship with the 16-year-old. The boy claims he was visiting a friend when he heard breaking glass and investigated. He said he was curious when he found a Mini Cooper with a broken window and decided to climb inside to investigate.

He also said he did the same to a Ford sport utility vehicle and said he touched the inside of a Honda with a broken out window as well.

Both suspects were transported to their homes and released. Their cases were referred to the prosecutors.

Man robbed

A Seattle man was robbed at gunpoint at 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 29 while in the parking lot of a convenience store located on Rainier Avenue North.

Police came to the store after the store manager called to complain about a man who had come in demanding the store’s security video because he was robbed. The 33-year-old man said he left the store at 2:30 a.m. and when he opened the car door, two males in their 20s approached him. One stuck a handgun in his face and they demanded he open his trunk and give them “everything.” They took his leather jacket, a grey and black backpack, cash and credit cards from his pockets and even made him take off his shoes to see if there was any money in them. The suspects them took off in different vehicles.

The man who reported the crime to police smelled of marijuana and couldn’t produce any identification tying him to the area.

Police watched the store surveillance video and did see the suspects but couldn’t tell if a gun was used because of the poor quality of the video.

Threats at temple

A Sikh Temple committee meeting was interrupted by threats of violence against its members on Jan. 23.

A 48-year-old Kent man said he was in the meeting at the temple, 5200 Talbot Rd. S., when two men entered the meeting to discuss getting a protection order lifted for a relative, so that he could attend temple services again. The committee indicated it would not write a letter to get the protection order lifted. The two relatives became upset and threatened to pull out the beards of the committee members.

Teacher threatened

A 14-year-old Renton boy threatened to kill his teacher on Jan. 21 at Hazen High School.

The boy became infuriated after he was sent to the assistant principal’s office for writing on the floor of the classroom. He called the teacher “stupid” and an “animal” and said that it’s okay to kill such people in his home country. The boy has lived in the United States for approximately one year. One hour after the incident began, the student was still calling the teacher a “stupid animal.”

Based on his statements, the student was expelled from school and felony harassment charges were to be forwarded to the King County Juvenile Prosecutors Office for review and possible filing of charges.

Man beaten

A 47-year-old Renton man was robbed and beaten by a gang of males on Jan. 24.

Sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. the man left a restaurant in downtown Renton and started walking toward the Highlands. He said he was approached by four to five males as he made his way past the Quality Inn to the trail leading to Northeast Third Street. He was asked for a cigarette, but he didn’t have one, and the men walked past. Then one of the men punched him without provocation in the face. The others joined the attack and stole his jacket. The man received scratches to his face; he was intoxicated police noted.
