POLICE BLOTTER: Renton man robbed of money under railroad trestle

The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports.

A 26-year-old Renton man was robbed while walking in downtown Renton on March 3.

Shortly before 7 p.m., the man was walking south in the 500 block of Shattuck Avenue under the railroad trestle, counting money he had in his hands.

He was approached by three unknown males who told him to give them his money, then they immediately began to assault him. They punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground. Police noticed two red swollen bumps on the right and left eye near the victim’s eyebrow. He was robbed of $300. The suspects fled on foot north on Shattuck Avenue South. The man was treated by Renton Fire and transported to Valley Medical for further evaluation

Police used a K-9 track to locate the suspects, but they weren’t found.

Man surrenders guns, rifles

A 47-year-old Renton man surrendered 11 handguns and nine rifles to police after admitting illegal drug use on March 3.

The man called police to his residence in the 10700 block of Southeast 170th Street because he said an off-duty officer was having sex with his ex-girlfriend behind his home. When police confronted him about the validity of his story, he admitted to recently using methamphetamines and not having very much sleep.

Police explained that his irrational behavior could endanger others and himself and the man agreed to surrender his weapons to them for safekeeping. Police said the man was very cooperative and seemed almost relieved. They said they would return his guns when he demonstrated that he is clean and sober from abusing drugs.

A fight over cell phone

A father and a daughter got into a domestic dispute over a stolen cell phone on Feb. 22.

Both the 53-year-old father and the 19-year-old daughter called 911 to report the other had assaulted them. Apparently the daughter had a new $400 cell phone stolen from her, which the dad had previously told her not to brag about or show off.

The two got into an argument in which the daughter approached the father aggressively, flailing her arms in such as way that he thought she would assault him. He said he was going to call 911 and she threw the phone under some furniture. He called 911 with his cell phone and she used the residence phone. At some point during the argument, she grabbed a knife. Both people called in again to say that the other had pulled a knife on them. The daughter pushed her father with both hands and he landed on his back on the landing of the stairwell. Police arrived to the residence in the 2600 block of Sunset Lane Northeast and arrested the daughter for investigation of fourth-degree assault and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

Shot fired at home?

Police officers responded to a report that someone shot at a residence on Feb. 22.

At around 9:30 p.m., officers went to a residence on Southeast 191st Court because 10 minutes earlier witnesses said some unknown people shot at the house. There is a history of people throwing rocks at the house, but the 36-year-old Renton woman who reported it insisted it was gunfire.

A small hole was found in an upstairs bedroom window and downstairs windows were broken by unknown suspects from a previous incident. Police were unable to determine what broke the upstairs window. A neighbor said they heard the sound of a window break but not gunfire.

Police did a background search and discovered the eldest son at the house was the suspect in a drive-by-shooting and reported to be a potential gang member.
