A Renton couple and their dachshund were attacked by a pit bull in the 2400 block of Union Avenue Northeast on Oct. 22, according to Renton Police.
The couple was bitten and bruised and received medical treatment. Their small dog also was treated by a local veterinarian for multiple bites, according to Renton police.
The dog’s owner and the two victims live nearby.
The 18-month-old American pit bull was controlled by the injured couple, bystanders and police. Leashes were attached to the dog in order to get it into a police car. The dog acted aggressively toward officers and its twisting tightened the leashes around its neck, according to police. Officers used the leash to pull the dog into the patrol car, “as he was too aggressive and trying to bite us,” according to the police report.
The pit bull died on the way to the city’s animal impound, according to police.
The dog’s owner told officers that police had impounded her dog about a month earlier, when it broke free of its chain and attacked another dog, according to the police report. She was able to “redeem” her dog after that incident, according to the report.
The injured couple told officers the pit bull
started running and barking at them from inside its yard, which is surrounded by a short chain-link fence. They tried to walk to the other side of the street; the pit bull pushed its way through the bottom of the fence and ran straight for the couple’s dachshund, according to police.
The pit bull bit the couple as they tried to pull the pit bull off their dog. Witness then assisted them in an attempt to control the pit bull.
The pit bull’s veterinarian clinic reported to police that it has no record of the dog receiving a rabies shot. The pit bull was tested for rabies.
