Work to repave nearly 2 miles of the Maple Valley Highway (State Route 169) in Renton and improve 15 sidewalk ramps is shifting into high gear.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will work longer overnight shifts to minimize travel delays and reduce the number of nights needed to complete the project. The work will now take place during two weekends in August, reducing the number of paving nights needed from 20 to five.

The Friday and Saturday night work will include single lane closures and alternating traffic, creating delays of up to 30 minutes.

Nighttime travel delays in August

During the weekends of Aug. 4-6 and Aug. 11-13, between Cedar River Park and 140th Avenue Southeast, crews will:

• Close one lane of northbound SR 169 at 8 p.m. and one lane of southbound SR 169 at 9:30 p.m.
• Alternate traffic on SR 169 between 11:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.
• Reopen all lanes each Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m.

Daytime work to replace sidewalk ramps will continue with single lane closures during weekdays.

The $3.5 million project is expected to be complete in September.
