A portion of Houser Way North is scheduled to soon be closed for the remainder of the year.
The Washington State Department of Transportation will be closing Houser Way North between Lake Washington Boulevard North and Lowe’s business access material delivery road from Sept. 3 until Dec. 31.
The closure was previously approved by the Renton City Council to take place between Jan. 21 and May 22, 2025. WSDOT said the contractor did not implement this closure during the approved time frame because of delays in the permitting process with BNSF Railway. The city council approved the new closure on July 21.
The work includes installation of a 12-inch city of Renton water main, installation of soldier pile shoring to support two storm drainage outfall structures, storm drainage structure excavation, and jack and bore of three 42-inch diameter storm drainage pipes.
Detour routes will lead southbound traffic onto Garden Avenue North, turning left onto North 8th Street and left onto Houser Way North. Traffic northbound on Logan Avenue North will turn right onto Garden Avenue North, take a left onto North 8th Street, and then left onto Houser Way North.
WSDOT said access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the closure period and the closure will not impact material deliveries to the businesses.
The closure is due to the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes project, which will add new capacity between SR 167 in Renton and Northeast Sixth Street in Bellevue. One new lane will be added in each direction and combine the existing HOV lane with the new lane to create a dual ETL system.
The new ETLs will connect to the existing express toll lane system between Bellevue and Lynnwood, as well as the SR 167 HOT lanes via the I-405/SR 167 Interchange Direct Connector, to create a 40-mile ETL system.
